Best 3 Way Car Speakers Reviews

There are plenty of people who are going to be quite content listening to their worn out factory speakers all day long, but not everyone. A lot of people don’t really like listening to their favorite tracks being played through sub-par speakers, for these people, the best 3 way car speakers are going to be a real life-saver. However, choosing great sounding 3 way speakers for your car can be a tedious task – aside from simple things, like cost and aesthetics, there are a myriad of technical details to take into account.

To help you make an informed buying decision, we’ve put together this list of the best 3 way speakers that we have personally tested or reviewed over the last year or so. And because each one of these speakers has earned our seal of approval, you can be assured that any of these speakers would be a great pick. Like with any product, you can get some really nice sounding speakers if you’re willing to shell out some serious dough, but there really are great products in every price range.

What Are 3 Way Speakers?

Unlike 2 way speakers (AKA coaxials) which usually consist of a woofer and a tweeter, 3 way speakers (also referred to as tri-axial speakers) add an extra component called the mid-range which resembles a woofer but it’s a little bit smaller.

The mid-range’s main purpose is to reproduce sound frequencies midway between the lows of the woofer and the highs of the tweeter; frequencies that fall in this range include musical instruments (such as trumpets, saxophones …etc) and, most importantly, the human voice. This range contains most sounds which are the most familiar to the human ear.

However, just like with anything else, there are a few exceptions to this very generic rule of thumb as some manufacturers tend to use a super-tweeter in place of a mid-range driver to extend speakers’ high frequency response or to add greater detail to the sound.

2 Way VS 3 Way Speakers

The human brain is hard-wired to always think that more is better. So, naturally, you might suspect that because 3 way speakers have an extra driver involved, they should sound way better than a 2-way system. Well, it depends.

Although it makes total sense that splitting up the job between three instead of just two drivers should provide better, well-balanced sound, there are several factors that should be taken into consideration. For example, speakers’ build materials, the quality of the components, how the speakers are matched to each other, how well the crossover network is set up…etc.

With all of that being said, it’s not that hard to find high-quality 2-way speakers that can easily outperform cheaply made 3-way speakers. For more information on 2-way versus 3-way systems, check out the video below:
